Massad F. Ayoob (born July 20, 1948) is an American firearms and self-defense instructor. He has taught police techniques and civilian self-defense to both law enforcement officers and private citizens since 1974. He was the director of the Lethal Force Institute in Concord, New Hampshire, from 1981 to 2009, and now operates his own company.[1] Ayoob has appeared as an expert witness in several trials. He served as a part-time police officer in New Hampshire since 1972 and retired in 2017 with the rank of Captain from the Grantham, New Hampshire, police department.[2] On September 30th 2020, Ayoob was named president[3] of the Second Amendment Foundation.
Career[edit]
Ayoob has authored several books and more than 1,000 articles on firearms, combat techniques, self-defense, and legal issues, and has served in an editorial capacity for Guns Magazine, American Handgunner, Gun Week, Guns & Ammo and Combat Handguns. Since 1995, he has written self-defense and firearms related articles for Backwoods Home Magazine. He also has a featured segment on the television show Personal Defense TV, which is broadcast on the Sportsman Channel in the US.
While Ayoob has been in the courtroom as a testifying police officer, expert witness, and police prosecutor, he is not an attorney; he is, however, a former Vice Chairman of the Forensic Evidence Committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), and is believed to be the only non-attorney ever to hold this position.[4][5] His course for attorneys, titled 'The Management of the Lethal Force/Deadly Weapons Case', was, according to Jeffrey Weiner: 'the best course for everything you need to know but are never taught in law school.'[5]
Ayoob has also designed two tactical knives;[6] in 1998 a sheath knife for Master of Defense (currently BLACKHAWK!),[7][8] and in 2001 a folding knife for Spyderco.[9][10]
Personal life[edit]
Ayoob is of Syrian descent.[11] His grandparents immigrated to North America in the latter part of the 19th century.[12]

Combat Shooting With Massad Ayoob Pdf Free
We are pleased to introduce a limited edition 1911 from Ed Brown Products, Inc. in collaboration with Massad Ayoob. This special edition 1911 is called the Massad Ayoob Signature Edition, and is based on our popular Executive Carry series, with a few enhancements as per Massad Ayoob's specifications.
Massad Ayoob has been law enforcement editor for American Handgunner magazine for more than 30 years, and handgun editor of Guns for a similar period. He is also a long-time associate editor of Combat Handguns and Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement, and for more than a decade has been firearms editor for Backwoods Home magazine. He is the author of many books, including 'In the Gravest Extreme', considered the authoritative text on the use of defensive deadly force by private citizens and, most recently, the 'Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry'. He co-stars on Tom Gresham's show Personal Defense TV, and is the star of many training films. Ayoob won the coveted title of Outstanding American Handgunner of the Year in 1998. He has worked successfully for 30 years as an expert witness defending accused cops and armed citizens after self-defense shootings, and served for some 20 years as chair of the firearms committee for the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers. He has served as director of Lethal Force Institute since 1981.
Massad has won many state and regional combat shooting championships, some with the 1911 .45 pistol, and is one of only seven Five-Gun Masters in IDPA. When Ed Brown Products, Inc. asked him what he would want in an ideal 1911 pistol for concealed carry, home defense, and even duty use, Ayoob picked the 4.25' barrel with the Bobtail frame as the ideal starting platform. Based on three decades of defending often false allegations of accidental discharges by his clients, he specified a 4.5 pound trigger pull, demanding a smooth stroke and a crisp let-off. An extra-heavy duty firing pin spring was specified to failsafe against 'inertia discharge' should the pistol be dropped or struck. Night sights were a must to prevent errant shots in poor light, and because the job of the pistol is to send the bullet true to the target reliably, he insisted on 2' or better 25-yard accuracy with JHP ammo, with total feeding and cycling reliability. Checkered frame straps to prevent shifting in the hand, Micarta stocks designed with the same purpose in mind, and an ambidextrous thumb safety, complete the package. Of course, this all-stainless pistol comes chambered for Ayoob's favorite defensive pistol cartridge, the .45 ACP. The result is the Massad Ayoob Signature Model, the latest purpose-built top-quality 1911 from Ed Brown Products, Inc..
The Massad Ayoob Signature Edition is the solution for those who prefer a smaller model 1911, but insist on complete reliability. The slide has been reduced to the minimum possible (4.25') without significantly impairing the legendary reliability of the 5' slide. The frame has been modified with the innovative Ed Brown Bobtail® housing which reduces the projecting butt of the mainspring housing without sacrificing the full size frame and magazine capacity. The Bobtail® minimizes the print under your jacket when carrying and reduces weight. Officer's frames reduce magazine capacity and limit grip, while keeping the projecting, sharp butt. Slides shorter than 4.25' are notorious for reduced reliability. These problems are eliminated with the Ed Brown Commander Bobtail® configuration, which reflects the genius of John Browning with an innovative modern flair. The functional simplicity has yet to be matched. Unique with the Executive series pistols is the 25 LPI checkered frame and 'half checkered' Bobtail®. This pattern is not too rough on the hands, but not too fine for a secure grip. The Executive Carry is truly at the top of it's field. Get promoted to an Executive Carry - it's a serious tool for the competent professional!
